How it works

The formula

  • Water speed = 2.2 m/s × (Speed/100)^0.6 × an aquatic factor.
  • Aquatic factor: Water types and the Water 1/2/3 egg groups 1; Fire, Rock and Ground types 0.4 (they sink or hate water); everyone else 0.55; a fish- or fin-shaped body × 1.15.
  • Swift Swim doubles Speed (its real effect), only with the rain on.
  • The start: a reaction, a dive (speed from Attack), a glide; stamina fades after 25 m from HP; a flip turn at 50 m and a push-off from Attack.

Inputs: Speed, Attack, HP, weight, length, types, egg groups, Swift Swim and body shape.

Modelled

  • A 50 m pool, eight lanes
  • Big bodies reach further at the start and the turn

Not modelled

  • Strokes other than freestyle
  • Drafting off a neighbour

This field's aquatic factors

  • Barraskewda: Water type (1) × Fish-shaped body (1.15) = 1.15
  • Iron Bundle: Water type (1) = 1.00
  • Greninja: Water type (1) = 1.00
  • Eternatus: Not a water Pokémon (0.55) = 0.55
  • Palafin: Water type (1) × Fish-shaped body (1.15) = 1.15
  • Sharpedo: Water type (1) × Fish-shaped body (1.15) = 1.15
  • Kilowattrel: Water egg group (1) = 1.00
  • Kyogre: Water type (1) × Fish-shaped body (1.15) = 1.15

The numbers that turn stats into strength, speed and spring are ours, anchored so a 70 kg athlete with base 100 lands an elite human mark; every constant and its source is in the open in lib/games/constants.ts.
